Office administrators (or office managers) supervise and coordinate administrative and support staff.  It is their responsibility to make sure the office works smoothly and efficiently.  This job can encompass tasks like scheduling employees, assigning duties, and overseeing their work.  Often, an administrative position requires more experience or higher education than many of the general, entry-level office and clerical jobs.  A two-year associate’s degree in office administration covers basic education requirements, but the majority of the courses apply directly to everyday business activities.  These include the principles of business and teamwork, basic computers, word processing, communications, spreadsheets and databases, accounting, business law, and office procedures.
